The Pembroke Log Cabin Quilters guild celebrated their 25th anniversary with a quilt show at the Petawawa Civic Centre, Petawawa Ontario, on May 30th and 31, 2009.

Brigitte Hamilton, show convenor and her committee (Dawna Steele, Christine Fleming, and Nata Von Taube), along with other guild members turned the arena floor into a quilt gallery. The tea room and merchant mall attracted visitors after they had viewed the over 170 quilts on display.

Quilt appraiser Judy Lyons was on hand to value quilts and give informative talks about vintage fabric and quilt care. She also brought with her a wonderful quilt created by students to remember the soldiers who fought in the Second World War. The research the students did helped them identify with the war veterans in their area and created a strong link between them.  Petawawa is the home of the 2nd Canadian Mechanized Brigade group and many of our soldiers were returning from a tour in Afghanistan at the time of the quilt show, so the memorial quilt was of great interest to many visitors.

Approximately 60 of our 93 members submitted quilts for the show. There was a limit of 3 pieces per member.  An origami flower, handmade by Yoriko Imahori, was given to the winner of each category.

Best of Show was awarded to Dorothy Hunt for her hand pieced and hand quilted Grandmothers Flower Garden.  Viewer's Choice went to Ada Fischer.  Usable Art went to Lianne Remus for her T–Shirt quilt.  "The quilt I would most like to cuddle with" went to Carol Slater, while Marilyn Schooley won "the quilt I would like to try to make" for her Colourwash Trip Around The World.  The Presidents challenge went to Lorraine Davidson.

The next quilt show for the Pembroke Log Cabin Quilters guild will be held on 2010 May 25-27.  The show will be held at the Petawawa Civic Centre.  Mark the dates in your calendar!

We are starting to prepare the queen-sized quilt that will be raffled at the quilt show.  It will be a circle quilt, similar to Carol Salter's winning quilt below.  Please consider helping out to make 4-patch blocks for this quilt.  Approximately 300 blocks will be required.  CLICK HERE for the instructions.
